This lesson, created in collaboration with Silvina Mascitti for International Mother Language Day (21st February), is based on a video about ‘World Englishes’ and aims to dispel the myth that any variety of English is superior or inferior and encourages learners to recognize themselves as part of a global community of English speakers. The lesson analyses the concepts of English as a Lingua Franca and World Englishes and encourages learners to construct a for/against argument or do a meaningful role-play using different English expressions. The lesson also reviews language to express agreement/disagreement. The answer key is provided as a separate document and can be downloaded if required.
