A little help for your story time

Story Time Made Simple

Your questions about Story Bundles

01

The Basics

What Story Bundles are and who they’re for.

What is a Learning Sutra Story Kit Bundle?

A ready-to-use story experience for you and your child. It includes a story, activities, vocabulary and conversation prompts to help you bring story time home. Think of Story Kit Bundles as another way to bring stories into everyday family life and to turn them into meaningful conversations.

What is the idea behind Learning Sutra Story Kit Bundles?

To bring back a simple tradition many of us grew up with: grandparents telling stories, children listening, asking questions and talking about them together. Today, families are busy and that kind of storytelling time can easily get lost. I wanted to make it easier to bring it back. So, instead of giving you just a story, I built an entire experience around the story: the story, creative activities, new words and conversation prompts, all in one place.

How is a Story Kit Bundle different from a storybook?

A storybook is mainly for reading and enjoying a story. A Story Kit Bundle takes the story a step further with activities, vocabulary and conversation prompts that help you talk, think and connect with your child. Story Kit Bundles are not meant to replace storybooks. They are for those times when you want to use a story as a starting point for a deeper conversation with your child.

How are these stories different from fairy tales?

These stories are about real-life experiences and feelings, with children at the centre. Children see themselves in some stories and discover lives different from their own in others. There’s no “grown-up tells, child listens” approach. Instead, stories encourage children to think, talk, reflect and learn from the characters and from each other. There is no single ready-made moral. Each child can figure out their own, so one story can teach different things to different children.

Who are the Story Kit Bundles for?

Story Bundles are mainly designed for children aged 8–12. The stories have been chosen and written with their interests, experiences and growing independence in mind. There isn’t one fixed reading level. Children can listen to the story, read it themselves, or enjoy it together with a parent. Whether your child already loves reading or isn’t very interested in books yet, a good story can keep them engaged and may even help them discover the joy of reading. What matters most is finding a story that suits your child’s feelings and comfort level.

Do the stories have pictures?

Yes! The pictures help children notice details, imagine and guess what happens next. Try pausing on a picture and asking:

  • “What do you notice?”
  • “What do you think will happen next?”
  • “How is this character feeling?”

Your child may spot something you missed!

Connection over Completion

How to use stories and activities to connect with your child.

What makes the Story Kit Bundle special for parents?

It gives you a simple way to become your child's favourite Story Buddy. A Story Buddy is not a teacher, just a person who reads, listens and talks about the story. Pick a story that matches your child's feelings, a situation they are going through, or a topic you'd like to explore together. The idea is simple: let stories become a natural part of family life and give parents and children more opportunities to connect along the way.

Who can be a Story Buddy?

Parents can be a child’s favourite Story Buddies, but anyone in the family who has the time and enjoys spending time with your child can take the lead. And it doesn’t have to be the same person every time! The Story Kit Bundles make it easy, with everything ready to use and simple instructions to help you read, talk and connect with your child.

How can a story help me bond with my child?

When you read together, listen and ask "What do you think?", your child feels heard. Even 15 minutes can become a small family habit you both look forward to. Their answers also give you little glimpses into what they think, feel and notice.

I'm not sure how to talk to my child about difficult topics. Can a story help?

That's one of the reasons stories are powerful. They give you a safe starting point. Instead of asking, “Why did you do that?”, you can begin with, “What do you think this character should do?” Stories help you know your child better. Sometimes children find it easier to talk about a character than about themselves.

What if my child doesn't want to talk?

That's okay. Don't force the conversation. Sometimes simply listening to a story together is enough. A conversation may happen later when your child is ready.

What will my child learn?

Time with you comes first. Learning happens naturally when someone listens and is curious about what your child thinks. Along the way, children build language and new words, and think about feelings, friendships, fairness, including everyone, personal space, family and the environment.

Story Time, Made Easy

Printing, time, reading and using the bundles at home.

Do I need to be a good storyteller?

Not at all! You don't need a dramatic voice or storytelling skills. Simply read the story together and enjoy the conversation that follows. You can read the story aloud to your child. Or your child can read it independently. You can also take turns reading. There is no "right" way to do story time.

What if I don't have much time?

You don't need an hour. Start with the story. Even 15 minutes of shared story time can become a small family ritual. You don't have to complete the whole bundle in one sitting. Pick a story, read it or simply talk about a question and continue the conversation over the week. Use it in the way that works for your family.

Can my child use the Story Bundles independently?

Yes! Older children can use many of the worksheets on their own. For activities that involve feelings, opinions or personal experiences, we encourage parents to join in too. Sometimes the story or the activity can be the start of a great conversation.

Is this another worksheet bundle?

Not really. This is not homework. There is nothing to check or mark. Writing is optional. The worksheets are there to help you talk, think and connect. You can write on them, or simply use the questions for a conversation. The activities are conversation starters that can help your child develop self-awareness and help you understand your child better. You can discuss the questions while travelling, eating dinner or sitting together at home.

Does every story need activities?

No. Having said that, the activities are not just designed to test whether your child understood the story, they are designed to make children think, express, imagine and talk. However, sometimes you just want to read a story and enjoy it. The activities are there when you want to explore the story further or use it to talk about something that matters.

Can I use the bundle without printing it?

Yes. You can read it digitally and discuss the activities together. Printing helps if your child likes writing or drawing.

Can I use a bundle more than once?

Yes. Come back to a story as your child grows. Their answers will change, and you may discover something new each time.

Beyond Story Bundles

Live storytelling sessions, workshops and other Learning Sutra activities.

Why pay for a Story Kit Bundle when I can find free worksheets online?

Each Story Kit Bundle brings together a carefully chosen story, meaningful activities, vocabulary and conversation prompts around a common theme so you don't have to search, plan or figure out what to ask next.

Do you have anything besides Story Kit Bundles?

Yes, Story Companion Bundles. These are activity packs to go with a story, but they don't include the story itself. You can watch the story free on the Learning Sutra YouTube channel, then pick activities to write about, think about or talk through together. We also have Themed Spark Sheet Bundles that cover topics such as religious festivals, child safety, AI trends and gender stereotypes.

Do you still do live storytelling sessions?

Not regularly. I loved telling stories to children live, but I found they can be just as meaningful at home with family. Now I focus on helping families bring stories home through Story Kit Bundles, to enjoy whenever it suits them. With Story Kit Bundles, you can bring the story home and enjoy it when it works for your family.

How can I stay updated on Learning Sutra’s upcoming sessions and activities?

Stay connected with Learning Sutra! You’ll be among the first to hear about upcoming live storytelling sessions, workshops and special activities, with priority access to new opportunities.
